Album Release Party

My dad just finished recording his third album. On Saturday, they (my mom and dad) had about fifty close friends and family over to hear him play a backyard concert.

Some background: My father was a professional-level musician in the 1970s and early 1980s, prior to becoming an educator. At 54, my dad now has Parkinson's Plus, which is a condition similar to Parkinson's Disease, but with some additional symptoms similar to ALS. (That is a very simplistic discription--for more, see my dad's blog.) So, for my dad to play and record, and then perform for a group of people is really a BIG deal.

The concert went really well and was really fun to hang out with my parents' friends, and to get to see my aunt Teri and uncle Matt.

One of our longtime family friends, Jeremy Ricketts took some pictures. Here's a little slideshow:

If only...

Jon Stewart does a parody of Glenn Beck. Along the lines of something I have been contemplating for a while, but I don't have a platform like Jon Stewart.

Dia de los Muertos in La Ciudad

Here in the Ciudad, the Dia de los Muertos celebration is going strong. Cosme does so much for Riverside.

I was too sick to go this year (just a cold, not the swine flu), but I wish I had at least been at the Evergreen Cemetery event. One of my great-great-great-grandfathers is buried there who died of TB back in the 1880s.

Seriously, though, I love Southern California life.

Lake Show vs. Atlanta Hawks

I harbor no ill will toward the Hawks, but I do hope that Mike Bibby is crying by the end of the night.

On the other hand, I hope he's in better spirits by the time he's up against the Celts in the playoffs. Atlanta has quite a bit of young talent. They're the kind of team that has the capability to shock a team like the Lakers or Celts on a given night (though the LAL are leading 90-70 at present). It has been fun watching them push teams to the limit late in the season and in the playoffs. Let's just hope it's not tonight.
